24 - a banned book

I have no idea what I will read this week! My challenge is a banned book, so I decided to use a Goodreads list called: Best Banned, Censored, and Challenged Books. I will go to the library on Monday and borrow some book from this list I haven't read yet.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

I  wanted to read this book for ages, but, for whatever reason, I couldn't start, and it waited patiently for its turn. I'm going to read it this week and I really hope I'll enjoy it!

Antigone in New York by Janusz Glowacki

It was horrible and great at the same time, I both hated and loved it, so I guess it did exactly what it was supposed to do. I didn't give it five stars, because, you know, I hated it - but it was really deeply moving. Classical "Antigone" is generally a story of a girl, who is trying to bury her dead brother. This book tells a similar story: there is a group of homeless people in the park, a crazy woman and two men. One morning they find out, that their friend John died, so the woman decides that he should be buried in the park, next to his friends.  I didn't like any of the characters in this play, I didn't like the story, I hated the ending - and still, I think it was a very good book, moving and thought-provoking, and I'm very happy that I decided to read it.

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

I have some mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the first part of the book, I thought I'd give it five stars - but I quite hated the second part. I didn't like almost any of the characters. Finally I decided to give this book four stars, because I think that generally it was a fun read, but I'm not sure if I'll try reading any other book by this author in the future. It's a story of a 17-year-old Bianca, who has some serious issues - her parents are getting divorced, her father has a drinking problem and her friends are much prettier and more popular that she is. She feels the ugly duckling of the group and being called the DUFF - the designated ugly fat friend - by the most popular boy at school doesn't help. To stop thinking about all of this Bianca gets into a strictly sexual relationship with Wesley and, obviously, fells in love with him. Bianca's parents are horrible. Her mother is a joke - always absent, she just sends her husband...

Reading Challenge 2019

December just began, so it may seem a bit strange that I started thinking about my 2019 Reading Challenge, but - I'm bored :) My 2018 Challenge was to read 365 books, and I fulfilled it in November. I decided it's time to do something new - and it's my challenge, so I'm the one who decides :) So, what are the rules? I made a list of 52 suggestions what to read next. Every week on Monday I'm going to choose one book using this list and on Sunday I'm going to write if I managed to read it and what I thought about it. I think it's going to be fun :)
