22 - a book more than 100 years old

This week it's going to be a book more than 100 years old. I chose Ein Landaufenthalt von Onkel Titus by Johanna Spyri. As far as I know, the author died in 1901, so any book written by her must be over 100 years old.  So far I've read three books by this author. I loved "Heidi" and "Mazli", but I was not a great fan of "Cornelli". Let's hope I will enjoy this book :)

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

I simply loved this book! It was quite sad, thought-provoking and fun at the same time. I finished reading it a few days ago and I can't stop thinking about it. Keiko is strange. She knows about it and she is trying very hard to be "normal"; that's why she is copying the behaviour of the people around her - she talks like one woman and dresses like the other one, keeps pretending everything is fine with her. But she is already 36 and she realises, that not having a man in her life makes her original, noticeable. So - she finds a man, as strange as she is, to live at her place and lets her family and friends believe, that they are actually a couple. What I found interesting was that Keiko was a very happy, balanced person at the beginning of the book. Her unconventional life was giving her lots of joy - yet, none of her friends seemed to notice or appreciate it. They forced her to become someone else, someone unhappy, and they were very satisfied about it, bec

21 - a book based on a true story

I'm going to cheat a bit this week - again! I'm a horrible, horrible reader :) It's going to be a book based on a true story now, but I chose Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata It's a book about a woman, who works in a convenience store, and the author also works in a convenience store, so maybe it's not based on a true story, but for me it's close enough. I heard many good things about this book. I hope it's going to be good!

For Every Solution, A Problem by Kerstin Gier

I simply loved this book! It was so charming, real, a bit crazy, funny, but also sad - I had so much fun reading it and I would give it five stars, but I didn't like the ending - it seemed rushed and I would like to get some epilogue. Other than that, I really loved this book. Gerri is depressed. Her family is quite horrible, she lives in a tiny, uncomfortable place, she doesn't have a boyfriend, she earns almost nothing as a romance writer and her family is ashamed of her job - and, to make the matters worse, one day she suddenly loses it.. She decides to kill herself, but first she writes good-bye letters in which she finally tells everybody what she really thinks about them. As I said - both funny and sad, a wonderful book, I read it in a day and I can't wait to read other books by this author :)

20 - a book that was originally written in a different language

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to finish the book last week - I had a lot of books which I found much more interesting than that one. I'll try to finish it next week, I promise. This week it's going to be a book that was originally written in a different language. Generally speaking, most of the books I read were originally written in a different language, as English is not my mother tongue, but I read so much in English, that this time I decided to exclude it. So, this week I'm going to read: For Every Solution, A Problem by Kerstin Gier This book was originally written in German, so it fits :) I really hope I'll like it - and that I'll manage to finish it!

19 - the lowest-rated book on your TBR list

Week 19! This time it's going to be fun - the lowest-rated book on my TBR list on Goodreads :) It is going to be Prince of Thieves by Melinda Mcrae ,  and I'm really curious what's wrong with this book that people seem to hate it. Its average rating is only 2,44 and nobody gave it more than three stars so far. Maybe I'll be the first one!

Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller

This book spent years on my TBR shelf, because I was afraid I wouldn't like it. Finally I decided to read it and - guess what - I hated it. The novel takes place in Paris, there is this young artist, his group of friends and a lot of women. A lot of women and a lot of sex, which was just so boring! No real story, nothing moving or funny or dramatic - lots of complaining and lots of sex. I have absolutely no idea why so many people enjoy this book - I didn't and I'm very happy to remove this book from my bookshelf. I'm not going to read any other book by this author.
