Books set during Christmas

I'm quite disappointed! I managed to read only five Christmas stories (and one of them wasn't even a Christmas story in the end), because my Kindle got broken on Tuesday and I can't read on a phone. Anyway, here they are:

Decker and Joy by Elle Rush

It was not a Christmas story at all! It took place in November, but how was I to know? The company was called North Pole, and its CEO was Nick Klaus, plus they produce toys - and there are Christmas ornaments on the cover! Not only wasn't it about Christmas, but also it wasn't too interesting - a bit insipid, I'd say.

The Grinch of Starlight Bend by Jennifer Probst

Very moving and sweet, but much too short. Anyway, I quite enjoyed it.

Santa Baby, I Want A Bad Boy For Christmas by Justine Elvira

It was not a real story, just a sex scene pretending to be a story. 

The Christmas Project by Maxine Morrey

I truly enjoyed this book, it was great! Funny, moving, I liked both Kate and Michael, I thought Michael's family was wonderful and I fell in love with a dog! I already bought the next book by this author and I'm very happy I read it.

The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

It wouldn't be Christmas for me if I didn't read this book. I love it and I read it every year at Christmas.

I was bored to tears.  It's a story of a girl called Dora, whose father dies and she must live with her aunt and uncle. They are quite old, insensible and selfish and poor Dora almost dies under their care. Luckily for her, they need to go to Switzerland and Dora's life gets much better. The main problem I had with this book was Dora herself - she was so quiet, obedient and completely uninteresting! I'm sorry to say that, but I didn't care about her at all. The other children in the book were quite irritating, especially this boy who kept creating riddles, I forgot his name already, but I really wanted to throw something heavy at him once or twice. The ending seemed very false and unreal for me and I generally didn't enjoy this book much.  I can't recommend this book and I'm not going to read it ever again.

Immer derselbe Schnee und immer derselbe Onkel by Herta Muller

I'm so glad I decided to read this book! Not only was it engaging and really informative, but also so well-written, that reading it was a real treat. I especially liked the first part of the book, where the author wrote about her early life in Romania - by the way, after reading this book that country seems an extremely scary place I'd never want to visit. The second part, where she writes about other people, was less interesting for me and I did not enjoy it as much as the first part. I was afraid this book would be very sad and depressing - it was sad and scary and difficult to accept, but I couldn't stop reading it. I think Herta Muller is an extremely talented author and this book was fascinating.

The Promise of Happiness by Betty Neels

It was a romance without any romance and I don't know who was more surprised when the hero suddenly proposed to the heroine - Becky or me. I truly didn;t expect it, although I knew that  something like that simply must happen at the end of this kind of a book. Becky is one of the most passive and dull heroines I've ever read about and the Baron is so arrogant and unpleasant that it was quite difficult to keep reading at times. Becky spent a few years being literally a slave of her stepmother and stepbrother. The Baron helps her escape and employs her as his mother's nurse, where Becky is kind of a slave again, as the Baroness forgets about little things like wages or time off. Everybody, from the Baron to servants, keep repeating how boring and unattractive Becky is, plus the Baron has a mistress, who is beautiful and charming and who practically lives with him.
